Net Theory launches Bright Pages

Well, after many, many late nights and a lot of stress, my day job launched Bright Pages, a Yellow Pages search engine. We have been working on this for a long time, and I’m pretty proud of it. It’s not perfect (what is?), but overall, it ended up pretty nice. I’ll get some screen-shots up in the portfolio soon, but in the meantime, check out the site.

Wow! Very very nice :). Congrats to the whole team on a job well done. I especially love the little help rollovers next to the form fields.

Thanks! You certainly remember where (and when) this started. It’s been a long time in the making. I’m awfully glad to finally have it live!

Nice enough looking site. As you mention there, it has personality. Nice design work.

Are you familiar with Bright Pages’ unethical business practices in trying to round up customers? If not, I would quickly find out from your clients. I would not want to be associated with them.

They send out very misleading mail solicitations trying to dupe people (lots of tiny fine print) into signing a contract for an “enhanced listing at http://www.brightpages.com” for $77 a month when all they think they are doing is updating their company info in the online directory. I just got another solicitation this morning. Says: “Review Company Info - Make any changes below”. Then it says: “Check One” and the only 2 options are “List as shown” or “List with changes or additions”. Then you sign and drop in the mail. In tiny print at the bottom and on back, you learn what you are really just signed.

Do a Google search and you’ll see many complaints about BPLLC’s practices.

    Hi U.C.
Thanks for the compliments on the design, but I’m sorry you have had problems with their practices. I have not seen their mailers, so unfortunately I’m not sure specifically what you’re talking about. We have asked for a copy, so hopefully I’ll see it soon.

One thing I would like to point out: you suggested a search for “BPLLC.” I wanted to point out that Bright Pages is BPCLLC, not BPLLC. Just wanted to make sure you were researching the right company.

Unhappy Company must not have read the solicitation. The format is clear and unambiguous. There is nothing ‘misleading’ about the solicitation and I would invite them to be specific

    Hi Stephen and Unhappy

Thanks to you both for stopping by my site. I posted this announcement after a lot of hard work, and an end product that I felt (and still feel) proud of. I had no intention of opening a discussion about the client’s business practices; this is not the place for that discussion. I was the designer on this project. I work for Net Theory, not for Bright Pages. If you have praise or problems with Bright Pages, please bring it to them.

    Thanks!
